Four Hope College athletes have received weekly honors from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) — Jessie Lockwood and Nora Kirk in women’s soccer, Jason Muller in men’s soccer and Allie Mitchell in volleyball.

Kirk is the MIAA’s Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

The junior from Maumee, Ohio (Toledo Notre Dame Academy) was a constant offensive threat for the Flying Dutch in two MIAA victories last week. Kirk had eight shots on goal and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Adrian.

Kirk is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and in her career.

Lockwood is the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

The freshman from Kentwood (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) played every minute of both games at the center back position as she helped limit Hope’s opponents to two goals in two victories. She helped contain Adrian’s powerful offensive tandem of Sam Barker and Erin Weide in a 2-1 win over the Bulldogs.

Lockwood is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

Muller is the MIAA’s Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

The senior from Petoskey (Petoskey HS) scored three goals and added an assist as Hope stayed within striking distance of first place in the MIAA with two conference wins. Muller scored the tying goal and added an assist in a 3-2 overtime win over Kalamazoo, then scored two second-half goals in a 4-1 victory over Alma.

Muller is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and third time in his career.

Mitchell is the MIAA Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball.

The sophomore from Ada (Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern HS) led the Flying Dutch defensively with 86 digs as Hope won straight matches during the week.

Mitchell had 27 digs in a five-set victory over Elmhurst, Ill., and added 19 more in another five-set win over Wittenberg, Ohio, both at the Midwest Invitational tournament.

Mitchell is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
