Twice in a week, the top academic honor presented by the NCAA to a current athlete has gone to a Hope student.

The Elite 89 award is presented to the athlete competing in a NCAA championship with the highest cumulative grade point average among all of the competitors.

The award in recent days has been presented to Hope volleyball player Jayne Kessel and cross country runner Michelle Kerr. Both students have maintained perfect 4.0 grade point averages, Kessel as a chemistry major and Kerr majoring in nursing.
