Hope quarterback Michael Atwell has been chosen the NCAA Division III recipient of the Morley Fraser Award which is given to a collegiate football player who demonstrates academic achievement, football ability and leadership.

The senior from Geneseo, Ill. (Geneseo HS), was honored Thursday, Dec. 12, in Detroit. by the Michigan Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame.

Earlier, Atwell was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District® Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the second year in-a-row.

Atwell, who is applying for medical school, carries a 3.90 GPA while pursuing a double major of Biology and Chemistry.

Atwell threw for 2,582 yards and 20 touchdowns during the 2013 season while leading the Flying Dutchmen to a 7-3 overall record and second-place finish in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). He earned Second Team All-MIAA Honors.

In his career, Atwell passed for 6,094 yards. He concluded his career third on the all-time list at Hope.

The Morley Fraser Award is named in honor of the late Morley Fraser, who was a longtime football coach at Albion and an advocate for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
