Hope guard Alex Eidson has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week in men’s basketball for games played through Jan. 6-11.

The sophomore from Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS) averaged 19.0 points and 4.5 rebounds as the Flying Dutchmen opened MIAA play with a pair of victories. 

Eidson scored 15 points in a 75-61 victory over Trine in Hope’s conference opener, then followed with 23 points, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range, as the Flying Dutchmen knocked off defending MIAA champion Calvin 71-63. 

Eidson, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career, made 43 percent of his field goal attempts (10-of-23), shot 78 percent from 3-point range (7-of-9) and made 79 percent (11-of-14) of his free throws for the week.

Eidson is averaging 12.9 points per game on the season.
