The Sound of Music

When a novice nun proves too high-spirited for religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain.  Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the entire family. A Raisin in the Sun

Hot Mikado

July 11 - August 9

Book and Lyrics adapted by David H. Bell, Music Adapted and Arranged by Rob Bowman. Based on The Mikado by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan

Gilbert and Sullivan would be delighted with this rollicking reimagining of their classic Mikado. This new reworking infuses much of the original score with a 1940’s sensibility that blends blues, jazz, swing, gospel and sounds of popular American song and dance with a Japanese aesthetic. Set in the mythical village of Titi-Pu, where flirting is a capital offense, we find a wandering musician named Nanki-Poo who is looking for his true love, Yum-Yum.  Unfortunately, Yum-Yum is destined to marry Ko-Ko.  Will true love prevail? Come find out in this fun and lively musical full of hilarious hijinks, colorful characters, dazzling dance numbers and soulful singing.Hot Mikado performances are at 8:00PM on July 11, 12, 17, 23, 26, 28, 31 and August 6, 9 in the Dewitt Theatre.

 

The Matchmaker

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

This delightful musical adaptation of the popular children’s book follows feisty Alexander and a series of unfortunate events that occur throughout his day. Waking up with gum in his hair, unwanted cavities and no dessert with lunch are just a few of the obstacles he encounters. Alexander allows young audiences to identify with him and ultimately reveals that bad days happen to everyone-even in Australia.  Performances are in the Dewitt Studio Theatre.  The dates and time are as follows:  10:30AM June 25, 27, 30 and July 2, 21, 25, 30 and August 4, 8. Then, at 1:30PM July 23, 28 and August 1,6.

Quick! The humans aren’t looking! This fun-filled musical comedy brings to life Annabelle, a Victorian China doll, and her new all-plastic, all-modern neighbor, Tiffany Funcraft. The two make a pact to search for missing Auntie Sarah Doll, who has disappeared!  But first, they must find the courage to leave the Doll House, hide from humans, escape the cat and be kind to spiders.  The performances are in the Dewitt Studio Theatre.  The dates and times are as follows: 10:30AM July 9, 14, 16, 23, 28 and August 1, 6. Then, at 1:30PM July 21, 25, 30 and August 4,8.
