Lauren Hazekamp

Hope College setter Lauren Hazekamp has been chosen the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Specialty Player of the Week for matches played through Sept. 28.

The junior from Fruitport, Michigan (Fruitport HS), distributed 174 assists and added 15 kills, 24 digs and six blocks for the week as the top-ranked and MIAA-leading Flying Dutch remained unbeaten with five consecutive wins 

Hazekamp totaled 28 assists and seven digs in a sweep of MIAA foe Kalamazoo on Wednesday. She collected 38 assists, six kills in eight attempts and seven digs as Hope swept DeSales (Pennsylvania) in the championship match of the Gallaudet Worthington Classic in Washington, D.C. The Flying Dutch went 4-0 at the tournament.

Hazekamp is being honored as MIAA Player of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in her career.

Hope (15-0 overall) returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 30, when the Flying Dutch hosts Saint Mary’s at 7 p.m. on the DeVos Fieldhouse Volleyball court.
