Athletics
As a member of the MIAA and NCAA Division III associations, Hope College sponsors 22 varsity sports for men and women. The college is home to the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championship women’s basketball team.

Hope center Brock Benson has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played through Dec. 21.

The junior from Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS), earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Russ DeVette/Holland Sentinel Classic last weekend.

Benson averaged 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists for the tournament. He had seven points, seven rebounds and five assists in a 121-73 rout of Pittsburgh-Greensburg, then came back with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field as the Flying Dutchmen defeated Mount Union (Ohio) 79-71 to win the tournament.

Benson is being honored as Player of the MIAA Week for the first time in his career.
