The Hope women's soccer team has been lauded by National Soccer Coaches Association of America for its sportsmanship.

Coach Leigh Sears’ Flying Dutch were awarded the NSCAA Silver Team Ethics Award after completing the 2014 season with only three yellow cards from officials.

The honor recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.

Silver honorees had no red cards and no more than five yellow cards accumulated during the 2014 season.

In all, 125 college teams received either the gold, silver or bronze version of the College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award.

Hope finished the 2014 season with a 17-4-2 overall featured that included Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season and tournament championships.

The Flying Dutch reached the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second time in school history.
