Collin Breit of Muskegon, Michigan (Western Michigan Christian HS), and Jenna Grasmeyer of Jenison, Michigan (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS), were named the outstanding male and female athletes among Hope College graduates in the class of 2015.

Breit, a golfer, received the Otto van der Velde All-Campus Award, while Grasmeyer, a volleyball player, claimed the John Schouten Award.

The van der Velde award is presented to a senior man for outstanding contributions to the college in athletics, scholarship and participation in student activities. The award, presented annually since 1932, is named in memory of Dr. Otto van der Velde, a 1915 Hope College graduate who lettered in four sports and was later the college's team physician for more than 40 years.

The Schouten award is given to a senior woman who, in addition to excelling in athletics, possesses other strong character traits and leadership abilities. The award is named in memory of John "Jack" Schouten who was a long-time physical educator and coach at Hope, in addition to serving as the college's first director of athletics.

Breit graduated from Hope after majoring in chemistry with a biochemistry emphasis. He is a four-year letterwinner on the men’s golf team who co-captained the Flying Dutchmen the past two seasons.

Breit helped the men’s golf team repeat as MIAA regular-season and tournament champions. The Flying Dutchmen qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships for the 10th time in school history and the third time during Breit’s playing days.

Grasmeyer graduated from Hope after majoring in exercise science and minoring in psychology. She is a four-letter letterwinner who co-captained the Flying Dutch to their first NCAA Division III national championship in November.

Grasmeyer was named the 2014 Division III Championships Most Outstanding Player. She concluded her playing career as the Flying Dutch's all-time leader in kills and points as well as the only three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American in team history.

Grasmeyer also was named a College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American in December.
