Hope College guard Ben Gardner has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games through December 5.

The senior from Carmel, Indiana averaged 21.0 points per game during victories against Wheaton, Illinois and Carthage, Wisconsin at the Midwest Challenge last weekend at DeVos Fieldhouse. 

Gardner scored a season-high 22 points, six rebounds and four assists while playing 40 minutes of an 88-83, double-overtime win against Wheaton Friday night. He totaled 20 points, five rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes during a 93-83 win against Carthage Saturday afternoon. 

For the week, Gardner shot 63.6 from the floor (14-of-22) and 73.3 percent from the foul line (11-15). 

This is the second time in his career Gardner has been named MIAA Player of the Week.
