The Hope College women’s and men’s soccer teams have earned national academic recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for the 2015-16 academic year.

Hope is among 221 schools across the country to have both of their teams claim the NSCAA Team Academic Award.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player’s GPA, then dividing by the number of players.

Coach Leigh Sears’ Flying Dutch recorded a 3.56 grade point average. It is the seventh consecutive time they have received the award.

Coach Steven Smith’s Flying Dutchmen had a 3.26 GPA. It is the second NSCAA academic honor in three seasons.

A total of 892 soccer teams from throughout the United States  earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award. There were 577 women’s honorees and 315 men.
