Hope College guard Ben Gardner has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played through January 9.

The senior from Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS) received the award for the second time this season and the third time in his career. 

Gardner is honored after helping the third-ranked Flying Dutchmen get off to a 2-0 start in MIAA play last week. 

Gardner averaged 15.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game during victories at home against Albion on Wednesday and Olivet on Saturday.  

Gardner grabbed a season-high eight rebounds against Albion.  

Gardner totaled 14 points against Albion and 16 against Olivet. He has scored in double figures in 12 of Hope’s 13 games this season. 

The Flying Dutchmen (12-1 overall) return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Alma in a matchup of the MIAA’s co-leaders.
