Hope College forward Sam Otto is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played through December 27.

The senior from Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton North HS) won Most Valuable Player honors last week at the Russ DeVette/Holland Sentinel Classic.

Otto scored the game-clinching layup with just over a minute remaining in an 85-81 overtime victory Hanover, Indiana on Monday and finished the contest with a game-high 20 points.

On Tuesday, Otto put up 15 points in a 98-83 win over Grace Bible to claim the DeVette/Sentinel Title.

Otto started both games and averaged 17.5 points per contest. He ended the week by shooting 58 percent from the floor (14-of-24) and beyond the arc (7-of-12). Additionally, Otto totaled six rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks. 

This is the first time Otto has been selected MIAA Player of the Week in his career.
