Hope Women's Golf Pair Named Scholar All-Americans

Hope College golfers Britni Gielow and Nicole Meyer have repeated as winners of top academic honors from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association of America.

The pair are among 828 women’s collegiate golfers in all divisions from across the country to be named WGCA All-American Scholars for the 2015-16 school year. Honorees needed to have recorded a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Gielow and Meyer both were Scholar All-Americans in 2014-15.

Gielow is a junior from Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), while Meyer is a sophomore from Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS). Both helped the Flying Dutch repeat as MIAA champions and finished a team-best 10th at the NCAA Division III Championships during the 2015-16 season.

Gielow is pursuing a management major. Meyer is majoring in chemistry and minoring in management.

Hope coach Greg Stafford said it is special that his top two scorers also are lead the Flying Dutch in the classroom.

“It’s wonderful these two have gotten the award two years in a row,” Stafford said. “Everyone else on the team is right there with them as far as GPAs. We’re very blessed to have the type of student athletes we have in golf. It’s a great group of kids to work with.”
