Hope College’s Brock Benson has claimed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Award on Monday for games through February 7.

The senior from Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS) earned the distinction for the first time this season
and the second time in his career.

Benson averaged 15.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in two victories last week.

For the week, Benson made 67 percent from the floor on 14-of-21 shooting and sank all three of his free-throw
attempts. He averaged 2.0 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.0 block per contest.

Benson posted a double-double during No. 7 Hope’s 71-57 victory over No. 12 Alma on Saturday night at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Benson poured in 15 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds while playing a game-high of 34 minutes on the floor to help the Flying Dutchmen climb into a tie with the Scots atop the MIAA standings at 9-1.

During a 94-58 victory against Olivet earlier in the week, Benson scored 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. He also corralled six rebounds in 28 minutes of action on the court.
