Hope College forward Maura McAfee has been recognized as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played through January 30.

 

The senior from Midland, Michigan (Midland HS) is receiving the award for the eighth time in her career and third time this season. 

McAfee averaged 21.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals for the unbeaten fourth-ranked Flying Dutchmen during wins against Olivet and Adrian last week. 

McAfee became the Flying Dutch’s all-time leading rebounder with a career-high 17 rebounds at Adrian on Saturday. With 955 rebounds, McAfee passed previous leader Kristin Carlson’s 943 from 1991-95. 

McAfee also scored 13 points against Adrian for her ninth double-double of the season. She is now fifth all-time among Flying Dutch players with 1,260 points. 

McAfee recorded a career-high 29 points during Wednesday’s home win against Olivet. She shot 68.8 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 77.8 percent from the foul line (7-9).
