Hope College centerfielder Sammi Adams and pitcher Sydney Jones are the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Softball Players of the Week for games played April 24-30.
The two helped the Flying Dutch claim a share of the regular-season MIAA title and
the top seed for this week’s MIAA Tournament by going 4-0 against Alma and Trine last
week.
Adams is the MIAA Position Player of the Week after batting .583 with four RBIs, six
runs scored, and three stolen bases.
The senior from Griffith, Indiana (Griffith HS) went 4-for-4 with three RBI and two
runs scored in 14-5 Game 2 victory against nationally ranked Trine on April 26.
Adams also had two runs scored and a hit during a 3-0 Game 1 win against the Thunder.
Against Alma on April 29, Adams recorded a hit and a stolen base in each game of a
2-0 and 3-1 sweep.
Adams is receiving MIAA weekly honors for the first time.
Jones is the MIAA Pitcher of the Week after making three appearances against two of
the top teams in the MIAA and posting a 3-0 record with two complete game wins.
Jones yielded no runs in 19 innings while striking out 26 to four walks and five hits.
Against Trine, Jones threw a two-hit shutout while striking out 14 in a 3-0 Hope Game
1 victory.
Against Alma, Jones fired a two-hit shutout while striking out seven in a 2-0 Game 1 victory, then won Game 2 with five scoreless innings in a 10-inning game.
This is the second time this season Jones has been named player of the week and the third time in her career.
