Scholarship Renewal Criteria

If you’ve been awarded a scholarship, it’s important to know the criteria to renew it each year. 

ALUMNI HONORS SCHOLARSHIP
  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Award is automatically renewed for first and second years of enrollment
  • At the end of the spring semester of the second and third years of attendance, recipients must have earned a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA to renew the award for the following years
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
COVENANT SCHOLARSHIP
  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Must complete the FAFSA each year
  • Award is automatically renewed for first and second years of enrollment
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
DISTINGUISHED ARTIST AWARD
  • Must be enrolled full time
  • At the end of the spring semester, recipients must have earned a minimum 2.6 cumulative GPA along with continued involvement in that area of artistic achievement (as defined by the awarding department)
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR AWARD
  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Award is automatically renewed for first and second years of enrollment
  • At the end of the spring semester of the second and third years of attendance, recipients must have earned a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA to renew the award for the following years
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
HOPE HERITAGE AWARD

 If your Heritage award amount is $3,000 to $7,000:

  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Award is automatically renewed for first and second years of enrollment
  • At the end of the spring semester of the second and third years of attendance, recipients must have earned a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA to renew the award for the following years
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study

If your Heritage award amount is $8,000 or greater:

  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Award is automatically renewed for first and second years of enrollment
  • At the end of the spring semester of the second and third years of attendance, recipients must have earned a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA to renew the award for the following years
  • Recipients whose cumulative GPA is below 3.0 but at least 2.75 at the end of the spring semester of the second or third year will have their annual award reduced to $6,000 for the following year(s)
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
HOPE INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
NATIONAL MERIT CORPORATION (NMC)

The National Merit Corporation (NMC) funds between $1,000 and $2,000 of your total award and this portion of the award is noted as National Merit Scholarship on your financial aid award letter. Hope College funds the remainder of your award for a total of $18,000. The Hope College portion is called the National Merit Supplement and is noted as such on your award letter.

  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Award is automatically renewed for first and second years of enrollment for students that meet Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • At the end of the spring semester of the second and third years of attendance, recipients must have earned a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA to renew the award for the following years
  • Recipients whose cumulative GPA is below 3.0 but at least 2.75 at the end of the spring semester of the second or third year will have their annual award reduced to $5,000 for the following year(s)
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP
  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Award is automatically renewed for first and second years of enrollment
  • At the end of the spring semester of the second and third years of attendance, recipients must have earned a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA to renew the award for the following years
  • Recipients whose cumulative GPA is below 3.0 but at least 2.75 at the end of the spring semester of the second or third year will have their annual award reduced to $5,000 for the following year(s)
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
REFORMED CHURCH HONORS SCHOLARSHIP (RCA)
  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Award is automatically renewed for first and second years of enrollment
  • At the end of the spring semester of the second and third years of attendance, recipients must have earned a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA to renew the award for the following years
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
TRANSFER SCHOLAR AWARD

Transfer Scholar Award eligibility and renewal criteria are specific to each individual receiving this award. The eligibility and renewal criteria included in each student’s original award notice must be met to remain eligible for this award. Following is general information regarding Hope’s merit scholarship awards:

  • Must be enrolled full time
  • A minimum cumulative GPA is required for renewal in the subsequent year(s); the minimum GPA is specific to each student and is outlined in the student’s original award notice
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
TRUSTEE SCHOLARSHIP
  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Award is automatically renewed for first and second years of enrollment
  • At the end of the spring semester of the second and third years of attendance, recipients must have earned a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA to renew the award for the following years
  • Recipients whose cumulative GPA is below 3.0 but at least 2.75 at the end of the spring semester of the second or third year will have their annual award reduced to $5,000 for the following year(s)
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
VALEDICTORIAN SCHOLARSHIP
  • Must be enrolled full time
  • Award is automatically renewed for first and second years of enrollment
  • At the end of the spring semester of the second and third years of attendance, recipients must have earned a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA to renew the award for the following years
  • Award is limited to eight semesters
  • The annual award amount is divided equally between the fall and spring semesters, cannot be used during any summer terms and may be used for no more than two semesters of off-campus study
