CLEP

CLEP exams at Hope College are offered only to currently registered students or those who have paid their deposit.

CLEP exams are computer-based and are given online via a link from the College Board.

Credit is granted based on the score received — see the table below for more details.

Please note CLEP language credit cannot be awarded for courses you have already completed. For example, if you have already completed Span 121, then take the Spanish CLEP and score 50, you will only be awarded 4 credits for Span 122. If you score 66, you will be given 12 credits for Span 122, 221 and 222.

The maximum amount of credit by exam awarded is 32 credit hours, 8 of which can go toward your major.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR A CLEP EXAM
  1. Register online directly with the College Board. You will pay an $80 exam fee when you register. Be sure to keep your receipt.
  2. Contact Rowene Beals to make an appointment to take the exam.
  3. When you arrive to the appointment, show your receipt to Registrar’s staff. You will also need to pay an additional $20 administrative fee by cash or check made out to Hope College.
