Norovirus Update

Life on campus is returning to normal after being disrupted by an outbreak of the norovirus that caused Hope to close earlier this month. We are grateful for the encouragement offered the college by parents during this difficult period.

More than 500 students, faculty and staff were infected by this highly contagious illness, causing the Ottawa County Health Department to order the college closed on November 7. We deeply regretted having to cancel many college events, including Parents Weekend.

College health professionals worked tirelessly for the next several days providing care to those who were ill and had remained on campus while other staff prepared the campus for the return of others by sanitizing public places, replenishing food supplies in dining the facilities and gathering-up cleaning agents for use by students, faculty and staff. In the end it was a total effort by the campus community that made it possible for the college to re-open on November 12.

Throughout this ordeal it was our determined goal to be as transparent as possible through a series of communications to students and you and by postings on the college's website. We hope we succeeded.

Thank you for your many expressions of support. More importantly, we appreciate the love and care you gave your sons and daughters, both during the outbreak and now especially as they face the end of the semester.

One great way to get a feel for Hope's campus is to pay us a visit! The Admissions Office offers a variety of ways to pay Hope a visit throughout the year to introduce potential students to campus life. You can choose from the following list of visit options:
