First Year Seminar

All Hope College freshmen enroll in a first-year seminar during their fall semester. There are three special sections taught by Dr. Charles Green, Professor John Yelding and Professor Wayne Brouwer.

Can people from different cultures and backgrounds live harmoniously together? Can they learn to understand and appreciate each others' cultural assumptions and life experiences? How can a community be enriched by difference, and not fragmented by it? As members of the Phelps Scholars Program, we have a unique opportunity to create community together. The readings and discussions in the First Year Seminar provied a framework to learn much from each other -- and have a great time in the process.
