Scott Hall, the home of the Phelps Scholars Program,
received a thorough renovation during the summer of 1999. Every
room got a new coat of paint, new wall-to-wall carpeting, and
all new furniture. This was the biggest "overhaul" since the
building was built in 1962. Hope alumni who graduated before
1986 will remember Scott as the old Fraternal/Emersonian complex.
There are 98 beds in Scott; not everyone who lives
there is a part of the Phelps Scholars Program. Each room is
a double, with flexible furniture that can be arranged in a variety
of different ways.
There is an attractive
lobby on the first floor and a basement lounge with a television,
a pool table, a ping-pong table, and a complete kitchen. There
also are complete laundry facilities and a computer lab (as
well as ethernet connections in each room for those who bring
their own computer). The First-Year Seminar courses are taught
right in the hall as well, in our seminar room.
