Both Hope teams finished second at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championships which concluded Saturday night.

Women's Team Scores: 1. Calvin 850, 2. Hope 679, 3. Kalamazoo 604, 4. Albion 341, 5. Saint Mary's 314, 6. Olivet 297, 7. Alma 235.

Men's Team Scores: 1. Kalamazoo 815, 2. Hope 775, 3. Olivet 672, 4. Calvin 486, 5. Albion 292, 6. Alma 220.

  • Hope captured the gold medal in both the women's and men's marathon 1,650-yard freestyle. Junior Sarah Sohn of Arlington Heights, Ill. (Prospect HS) established an MIAA record (17:26.38) in winning the 65-lap race for the third consecutive year while sophomore Josh Grabijas of Howell (Howell) defended his championship with a school-record time (15:57.27). Both Sohn and Grabijas had provisional qualiyfying times for nationals. Sohn earlier won the 500-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley while Grabijas took the gold in the 500-yard freestyle.

  • Sophomore Libby Westrate of Grandville (Grandville HS) won her third event of the meet taking the gold in the 100-yard freestyle (:52.45). She earlier won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events. Her times in all three events were provisional qualifying performances for nationals.
