FIRST GAME
Flying Dutchmen Rally to Gain Tie in National Tournament Opener
The top-seeded Flying Dutchmen fought off a stunning defeat with a game-tying goal in the final seconds in their opener at the American Collegiate Hockey Association
national tournament. Junior Anthony Gasparotto scored with just 12 seconds remaining in regulation to give Hope a 5-5 tie with underdog Cal State-Northridge who had rallied from a four-goal deficit to take the lead.
The game was the first of three pool-play contests. Hope held a 4-0 lead midway through the second period and was ahead 4-1 going into the third. Cal State scored four times in a span of eight minutes. Neither team could score in overtime. Chris Kunnen had a hat trick for the
Flying Dutchmen while Justin Glick scored once.
SECOND GAME Flying Dutchmen Rebound With Big Win
The Flying Dutchmen came back strong at the American Collegiate Hockey Association national tournamernt routing the University of Alabama 9-1 in the second of three pool-play games. With a 1-0-1 record at the tournament in Eastland, N.J., coach Chris Van Timmeren's Dutchmen need a victory today over tournament unbeaten University of Pennsylvania-California in order to advance to Saturday's championship round. Seven players scored a goal in Thursday's victory highlighted by Jake Green's hat-trick. The Flying Dutchmen have a 26-6-1-1 season record.
THIRD GAME
Flying Dutchmen Bow Out at ACHA Tournament
For the first time in three years, the Flying Dutchmen will not be playing for a national championship after losing to California-Pennslyvania 4-3 in the final game of pool play at the American Collegiate Hockey Association tournament in Eastland, N.J.
Hope ended 1-1-1 at the national tournament and concludes its season with a 26-7-1-1 mark.
