2010 Season in Review
Hope hosted home contests in the new Van Andel Stadium. It is a stunning
venue and an outstanding place to watch a game.
The Flying Dutchmen finished with a 12-5 overall record, including a regular season Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association Central Division Championship, and another semi-final appearance in the CCLA tournament. Hope finished with a #15 ranking in the national Collegelax.us coaches' poll.
Hope posted three victories against rival Calvin College, including a come-from-behind thriller in the quarterfinals of the CCLA tournament. Hope was behind 8-2 in the first half, only to come roaring back to an 18-11 victory.
Hope went 4-0 in the Central Division of the CCLA with victories over Oakland,
Aquinas, University of Michigan-Dearborn, and Calvin. This is Hope's first
division title in the CCLA.
Hope had key OOC victories vs. Wisconsin Stevens-Point (19-4) & DePaul (19-6). The Dutchmen also upset #8 ranked Grove City (17-6) in the final game of the regular season.
Senior Captain Andy Palkowski finished the season with 25 ground balls, 13 assists, and 12 goals. The Dutchmen also graduated seniors Patrick McElgunn and Travis Rieth.
Seven Flying Dutchmen received All-CCLA honors: Eric Weber - first team attack, Allen Campbell - second team attack, Dillon Fink - honorable mention attack, Pieter Norden - second team goaltender, Duncan Wierengo - second team defenseman, Keegan Aguilera - honorable mention defensive midfielder, Sean Murphy - honorable mention midfielder.

Junior Eric Weber was named as the Offensive Player-of-the-Year for
the second straight season in the CCLA. Weber's 89 goals and 38 assists allowed
him to lead the nation (all divisions) in scoring for the third consecutive
year. Eric also tied the single game goals record with 10 goals (Eric Weber -Wheaton '09,
Mark Williams & Chris Sizemore) in the CCLA playoff game vs. Calvin.
Eric Weber (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer HS) was also named to the 2010
MCLA All America First Team. Weber led all scorers
in the nation with 89 goals and 38 assists. He also led the team in ground
balls with 101. Weber also garnered All CCLA First Team honors as well as the
Offensive Player-of-the-Year in the CCLA. "I am very proud of our team's success
(12-5) this season and Eric's leadership has been outstanding. He is part of
a smooth attack line, along with All CCLA teammates Allen Campbell and Dillon
Fink, and our team offense seemed to gel as this year progressed. Eric increased
his assist totals this year and helped to balance our attack." said Coach Mike
Schanhals.

Junior goaltender Pieter Norden (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto HS) has been named an MCLA Academic
All America by virtue of his All CCLA status and his outstanding G.P.A. Piet
captained the 2010 Hope Lacrosse Team to an overall record of 12-5. Norden
recorded 197 saves on the season for a .618 save percentage. "Piet led us
to a dramatic victory over #8 ranked Grove City in a complete game performance
in which he had 24 saves and an 80% save rate. It was a special game and
a special performance by our captain. I am very pleased by this recognition
for his performance on the field and in the classroom." said Coach Mike Schanhals.
