Senior Dan Tresslar Voted MIAA's MVP Joining Tresslar on the All-MIAA first team are sophomore midfielder Kevin Bartosek of Traverse City, Mich. (TC West HS), junior back James Trebilcock of Haslett, Mich. (Haslett HS), and senior goalkeeper Mike Amerman of Indianapolis, Ind. (Brebeuf Prep). Amerman is being honored for the second time. All-MIAA second team honorees are junior midfielder Kevin McMahon of Grand Rapids, Mich. (Forest Hills Central HS), junior back Mitchell Currie of Fort Collins, Colo. (Fort Collins HS) and sophomore forward John Turner of East Kentwood, Mich. (East Kentwood HS).
Flying Dutchmen Finish 2nd in MIAA Race Senior Dan Tresslar scored two goals while sophomore Ausable Schwiebert got the third. Tresslar win the MIAA scoring title finishing with 15 goals and seven assists over 14 conference games. Hope held a 24-8 advantage in shots. Goalkeeper Mike Amerman was credited with four saves.
Flying Dutchmen Post Road Victory (10/31/07) Calvin has clinched the league championship behind an 11-1-1 record. Hope and Kalamazoo will enter the finale with 9-3-1 conference records. The Hornets on Wednesday played Kalamazoo to a scoreless tie. Hope improved to 12-6-1 overall. Hope scored three goals in the first half and added two more in the second. Senior Dan Tresslar scored a goal and assisted on three others to maintain his hold on first place in the MIAA's individual scoring race. He has scored 13 goals in league games and assisted on seven others. Also scoring goals were Jack Abe, John Turner, Chris Harrison and Ausable Schwiebert. Harrison and Schwiebert each had two assists.

Flying Dutchmen Keep in Pace in MIAA Race (10/23/07) Senior Dan Tresslar scored two goals and assisted on another as the Flying Dutchmen held a 26-9 advantage in shots and 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Tresslar tops the MIAA in scoring with nine goals and four assists. Also scoring goals were Jack Abe, Anthony Palazzolo and Andrew Nichols. Four goalkeepers combined for the shutout -- Mike Amerman, Mark Dishnow, Ross Bailey and Andrew Goorhouse.
Flying Dutchmen Post Shutout Victory (10/20/07) With every player getting into the game, the Flying Dutchmen outshot the Bulldogs 32-7 and had a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Dan Tresslar scored a pair of goals while Chris Harrison had the other. Credited with assists were Mitchell Currie, Kevin McMahon, Ray Cotter and Mark Dishnow. Spirited Hope/Calvin Game Ends in Tie (10/17/07)Box Score The 63rd renewal of the Hope/Calvin soccer rivalry was not for the faint of heart. Each team scored a goal in the first and second periods and then played through two scoreless overtimes. Calvin retained its hold on first place in the MIAA race with a 7-1-1 record while the defending league champion Flying Dutchmen are tied for third place at 5-3-1. Hope is 8-6-1 overall. Hope's goals were scored by sophomore Kevin Bartosek and junior Kevin McMahon. Each was assisted by senior Dan Tresslar. Hope held a 26-14 advantage in shots on goal and 10-8 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Mike Amerman had six saves.

Dutchmen Win Overtime Thriller (10/9/07) Sophomore Chris Harrison (Plymouth, Minn.) came off the bench to score the game-winner in the 93rd minute taking a throw-in from junior Mitchell Currie (Fort Collins, Colo.). Hope had dominated the field during regulation play, but couldn't get the ball in the net despite out-shooting the Hornets 13-4 and holding an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Kalamazoo had only one shots after halftime. Senior goalkeeper Mike Amerman (Indianapolis, Ind.) recorded his sixth shutout of the season and 14th over his career. The Flying Dutchmen have played seven 1-0 games this season winning four of them. They have won five games in-a-row since losing their first two MIAA games.

Flying Dutchmen Win Another Close Game (10/3/07) The teams played through a scoreless first half. The Flying Dutchmen got two goals in a span of 66 seconds, the first by Kevin McMahon and the eventual game-winner by Anthony Palazzolo. Assists were credited to Dan Tresslar and Justin Bailey. Tri-State scored eight minutes later, but the Dutchmen held on to win their ninth one-goal decision of the season. Hope held a 31-8 edge in shots and 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Mike Amerman was credited with two saves.

Flying Dutchmen Split Games in Ohio (9/15/07) Hope 3, BW 2 - Junior Jack Abe scored both of Hope's goals in the second half. The second came with less than five minutes left in the game. Baldwin-Wallace gained a 2-1 halftime lead on a pair of goals by Matt Pietro. John Turner scored Hope's first half goal. Credited with assists were Anthony Palazzolo, Dan Tresslar and Turner. Hope held an 18-13 advantage in shots. Goalkeepers Mike Amerman and Andrew Goorhouse split time at the net. Ohio Northern 3, Hope 2 (ot) - The Flying Dutchmen were unable to hold a 2-0 lead despite owning a 27-13 advantage in shots on goal. John Turner and Jack Abe scored Hope's goals with assists credited to Dan Tresslar and Justin Bailey. Ohio Northern scored twice late in the second half and got the game-winner in the 106th minutes. Hope goalkeeper Mike Amerman had two saves.
Both Hope Teams Mark Home Field Wins (9-8-07) The Flying Dutch hosted their MIAA rival for a non-league game. Saint Mary's scored first, but Hope came back with three unanswered goals. Scoring were Julia Fischer, Sonya Masghati and Ellie Tresslar. Hope held a 13-7 edge in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Kelly Schaefer had seven saves. The Flying Dutchmen scored in the 104th minutes with sophomore Ausable Schwiebert coming off the bench to get the game-winner. Hope has now played four consecutive games in which the final score was 1-0. The game was part of the Bergsma Memorial Tournament in which Hope and Calvin exchange opponents. Wheaton won the tournament with a pair of 1-0 wins over the Dutchmen and Calvin. Hope held a 10-5 shot advantage over the nationally ranked North Park team. Goalkeeper Mike Amerman recorded the shutout with four saves.
Flying Dutchmen Bow to Wheaton (9/7/07) Hope is now 1-2 on the young season. The 1-0 victory was over Guilford, N.C. while the 1-0 losses have been to Kean, N.J. and now Wheaton. The game was a scoreless standoff until the 82nd minute when Matt Swartz kicked the game with an assist credited to Stride Elass. Hope held a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. Hope goalkeeper Mike Amerman was credited with one save. Flying Dutchmen Split Pair of 1-0 Decisions (9/1/07)Kean Box / Guilford Box Hope split a pair of 1-0 decisions against two first-time opponents in a tournament at Ohio Wesleyan, bowing to Kean, N.J. but bouncing back to edge Guilford, N.C. Hope's goal in the victory was scored by freshman Kevin Isaac off a corner kick just 15 minutes into the game. Hope had three players named to the all-tournament team -- senior goalkeeper Mike Amerman, sophomore midfielders Justin Bailey and Kevin Bartosek.
The team’s MIAA championship season was the 13th in school history and the eighth in 17 seasons under coach Steven Smith. The team posted a 14-4-2 overall record, won 13 of 14 league games and limited opponents to just 12 goals over 20 games. Coach Smith ranks among the winningest NCAA Division III coaches with a career record of 238-79-22. Captains of the team will be senior Michael Amerman of Indianapolis, Ind. (Brebeuf Prep), senior Mark Dishnow of Saline, Mich. (Saline HS), junior Kevin McMahon of Grand Rapids, Mich. (Forest Hills Central HS), and senior Dan Tresslar of Bloomington, Ind. (Bloomington South HS). Four returning players achieved All-MIAA honors in 2006 – junior forward Jack Abe of Naperville, Ill. (Naperville North HS), Dan Tresslar, Michael Amerman, and sophomore Kevin Bartosek of Traverse City, Mich. (TC West HS). Tresslar was voted the MIAA’s most valuable player as he achieved all-league first team honors for a second year. He led the team in scoring with 14 goals and three assists. He was also named a NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division III second team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association. Other returning letterwinners include sophomore Justin Bailey of Portage, Mich. (Portage Northern HS), junior Daniel Chesney of Clinton Township, Mich. (DeLaSalle HS), junior Mitchell Currie of Fort Collins, Colo. (Fort Collins HS), sophomore Chris Harrison of Plymouth, Minn. (Wayzata HS), sophomore John Herbert of Culver, Ind. (Culver Academy), sophomore Ben Rosema of Spring Lake, Mich. (Spring Lake HS), sophomore Ausable Schwiebert of Chelsea, Mich. (Chelsea HS), and junior James Trebilcock of Haslett, Mich. Four of the returning players received MIAA Player of the Week honors in 2006 – Jack Abe, Michael Amerman, Mitchell Currie, and Dan Tresslar (twice). The Flying Dutchmen will play in three tournaments, including their own Cal Bergsma Memorial Invitational, before facing the 14-game league schedule.
