2010-11 in Review

  • For an 11th consecutive year, Hope won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Commissioner's Cup for the best cumulative performance in the league's 18 sports for men and women. Hope ranked 55th among the 310 NCAA Division III colleges included in the NACDA Director's Cup national standings.

  • Hope won five MIAA championships -- men's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's basketball and men's track & field.

  • Hope qualified for individuals or teams in 10 NCAA championships -- men's soccer, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's track & field and volleyball.

  • Seven athletes were voted the MIAA's most valuable player -- Chris Ansel, golf; Logan Neil, soccer; Liz Ellis, basketball (defensive); Andrea Reinecke, softball (pitcher); and Kara Vande Gutche, Heidi Grotters and Nicholas Rinck , track & field. In addition, Brad Boelkins was presented the tennis scholar-athlete award.

  • Fifty athletes were voted to the All-MIAA first teams and an additional 24 received All-MIAA second team recognition. The MIAA Academic Honor Roll included 193 Hope student-athletes, including 16 for a fourth consecutive year. Ten teams, including all nine of Hope's women's teams, received the MIAA All-Academic Team GPA award -- women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, softball, women's soccer, women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, women's track & field, and volleyball. The women's cross country team received the honor for a 13th consecutive year.

    Three athletes achieved Division III All-America status -- Carrie Snikkers, basketball; John Donkersloot, track & field and Jacie Fiedler, volleyball. Snikkers and Donkersloot were each honored for a third consecutive year.

  • Voted Hope's outstanding senior student-athletes were John Donkersloot (track & field) and Kara Vander Gutche (volleyball and track & field).

  • Three Hope athletic teams topped NCAA Division III in average home attendance -- volleyball and men's and women's basketball. The men's soccer program ranked second nationally in average home attendance.
