HOLLAND -- Aerial Dance Theater will present a
concert at Hope College on Monday, May 21, previewing the
group's forthcoming appearances in Holland's sister city of
Queretaro, Mexico.

The concert at Hope will be presented on Monday,
May 21, at 8 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre, located in
downtown Holland at 86 E. 8th St. Tickets will be available
at the door, and will cost $6 for regular adult admission,
and $4 for senior citizens and students. Admission will be
free for children under 12.

The company, an affiliate of the department of
dance at Hope, will leave for Queretaro the next day. In
Queretaro, the company will perform, teach a variety of
master classes and hold open rehearsals that will include
question-and-answer sessions.

Aerial's presence in Queretaro is the first stage
of a dance cultural exchange that will include reciprocal
performances at Hope by Gross Modo, the affiliate dance
company of the Autonomous University of Queretaro.

Aerial's Holland performance will include works
old and new, award-winning works as well as a premiere.

The premiere of the evening, "Agreement," is
choreographed and performed by company members Christine
Lutz and Emily Poel.

The concert will also feature a preview of Linda
Graham's "Red Wolf." Featuring original sound design by
Erik Alberg and Algerian music by Cheb Mami, "Red Wolf" was
honored with the Maggie Allesee New Choreography Award by
the Michigan Dance Council in October of 2000.

Steven Iannacone's "Bolero" is a full-company
piece with music by Ravel. "Beyond Existence,"
choreographed by company member Jodi Kurtze, will be
performed by Amy Vertalka to the contemporary opera music of
Andrea Boccelli. Iannacone's raw and gripping "Meat" and
"Side Show" will be a multi-media exploration engaging light
and sound.

Aerial company members going to Queretaro include
Kelly Buwalda, Jodi Kurtze, Christine Lutz, Emily Poel and
Amy Vertalka, all of whom graduated from Hope earlier this
month; Philip Leete, a 2000 Hope graduate; Linda Graham and
Steven Iannacone, who are co-artistic directors of Aerial
and members of the Hope dance faculty; and Maxine DeBruyn,
who chairs the college's department of dance.

Aerial's work is supported by the Michigan Council
for Arts and Cultural Affairs, Herman Miller Inc., Hope
College Patrons for the Arts and the Angels for Aerial.
