GPS to Feature German String Trio on Nov. 9
HOLLAND - The Hope College Great Performance Series will showcase the internationally renowned Jacques Thibaud String Trio on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
"Their playing has authority as well as heat," "The Los Angeles Times" has said.
The performance will be a truly unique event when the trio performs in the second half with highly regarded musicians and Hope College faculty members Mihai Craioveanu and Richard Piippo for a performance of the Schubert "String Quintet C major, D 956." In addition, thanks to support from the Hope College Patrons for the Arts, the trio will be in residency at Hope College for several days.
With all three members of the trio being in their late 20s, the group has been noted for its ability to bring new audience members to classical music while thrilling the veterans. The trio has been dubbed the "boy band" of classical music by some, and the members' passion for music shows in their playing.
"This ensemble has already turned quite a few heads," noted "The New Yorker."
The trio's appearance at Hope College will feature the Beethoven "String Trio c minor op. 9/3," and the Françaix "String Trio" in the first half of the performance.
Formed just over 10 years ago while the musicians were students at the Berlin School of Art, this German trio is consistently winning praise and fans. The ensemble has performed throughout Europe, Japan and over 40 states of the U.S., receiving tremendous acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
"These musicians are clearly on a mission to bring attention to the neglected string trio repertory," said the "New York Times. "But they are also having fun. It's the best combination. Success is sure to come to them."
