Daniel Bouwens Honored For Academic Achievement

Recent Hope College graduate Daniel Bouwens of Zeeland (Zeeland HS) has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District first team in the at-large category.

As a first team honoree, Bouwens is eligible for Verizon Academic All-America consideration.

The college division of the Verizon Academic All-America program includes NCAA II, NCAA III and NAIA schools. The Verizon Academic All-District and All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Director's Association of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for nomination by an institution's sports information director, a player must be a starter or a key reserve with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20.

A four-year letterwinner in swimming, Bouwens holds the Hope record in the 100-yard butterfly. He was co-captain of this year's team and achieved NCAA All-America designation twice in his career.

He majored in chemistry and received academic Phi Beta Kappa recognition. Next fall he will pursue a degree in dentistry from the University of Michigan.
