Jeff Carlson Named to DIII All-Freshman Team
For the second year in-a-row, a Hope player has been named to the Division III All-Freshman basketball team by the publication DIII News.
Freshman Jeff Carlson of Holland, Mich. (Holland HS) is one of ten players recognized from the nation's NCAA Division III colleges.
A year ago the All-Freshman team included Hope's Greg Immink.
A 6-4 guard, Carlson moved into the starting lineup in Hope's third game. He finished the team's second leading scorer, averaging 10.2 points per game. He led the team in three-point shooting (54%) and made 30-of-31 free throws (97%). He committed only 30 turnovers while averaging 24.2 minutes over the team's 28 games. He was voted to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) all-conference second team.
DIII News also recognized seniors Don Overbeek and Amanda Kerkstra as All-Americans. Kerkstra was named to the women's first team while Overbeek achieved men's second team recognition.
