Hope Student Receives MAB Foundation Scholarship
HOLLAND - Hope College senior Jonathan Johnson of Fremont has received a scholarship from the MAB (Michigan Association of Broadcasters) Foundation.
Johnson was recognized along with other scholarship recipients from around the state at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, March 8, during the Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference, held in Lansing. The award is for $1,000.
Johnson is a communication major who is interested in a career in television sports news. He is news director with the college's broadcast news production class, and is the student manager of the college's Video Services production unit. He held a summer internship at WZZM TV 13 and currently holds an internship at WOOD TV 8, and has worked with the Joint Archives of Holland to interview leaders in the Hispanic community as part of the archives' efforts to document the history of Holland.
His activities at the college have also included participating in the student-organized Dance Marathon charitable fund-raiser for DeVos Children's Hospital; new student orientation; the independent music club; the Nykerk Cup competition; and ultimate frisbee. He is the son of Robert and Bernadine Johnson of Fremont, and is a 2001 graduate of Fremont High School.
The MAB Foundation is a non-profit educational and research-oriented charitable organization that was formed and initially funded by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. The scholarship program is one of several initiatives in keeping with the foundation's involvement with preservation of the industry through education, research and promoting excellence.
