Chapel Choir and Symphonette
Perform Spring Break Tours

HOLLAND – The Hope College Chapel Choir and Symphonette will tour during the college’s spring break.

The Chapel Choir will perform in New York and Massachusetts on Friday-Thursday, March 12-18. The Symphonette will perform in Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin and Illinois on Friday-Wednesday, March 12-17.

The Chapel Choir will perform in Hicksville, N.Y., on Friday, March 12; in New York, N.Y., on Sunday, March 14; in Mount Marion, N.Y., on Monday, March 15; in Albany, N.Y., on Tuesday, March 16; in Andover, Mass., on Wednesday, March 17; and in Rochester, N.Y., on Thursday, March 18. The choir will also present its annual post-tour “Home” concert on Monday, March 22, at 8 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, located at 13th Street and Maple Avenue in Holland.

The Symphonette will perform in Kalamazoo on Friday, March 12; in Valparaiso, Ind., on Saturday, March 13; in Alto, Wis., on Sunday, March 14; in Oostburg, Wis., on Monday, March 15; in Whitefish Bay, Wis., on Tuesday, March 16; and in Palos Heights, Ill., on Wednesday, March 17.

The Chapel Choir was organized in 1929 and began touring annually in 1953. In addition to touring extensively in the United States and Canada, the choir has made a European tour six times.

The 42 members are selected by audition. The choir is directed by Brad Richmond, director of choral activities and associate professor of music at Hope.

The Symphonette was organized in 1953. The group has toured coast-to-coast in the United States, and has also performed in two provinces in Canada, the British Isles, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The 41 Symphonette members are selected each year from the larger college symphony orchestra. The Symphonette is directed by Richard Piippo, associate professor of music at Hope.

The Chapel Choir and Symphonette each maintain active local performance schedules. Both groups have also made numerous radio and television appearances, including the nationally televised “Hour of Power” from Garden Grove Church in California. Both groups are also featured in Hope’s nationally broadcast Christmas Vespers program each December.
