Hope Leads MIAA All-Sports
Standings After Winter Season

HOLLAND -- Hope College is in first place in every category
of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) all-
sports standings after the winter season.
The MIAA presents separate awards for the best cumulative
finish in men's and women's sports as well as an award for the
best cumulative finish in all league sports (men and women).
The separate awards are known as the Men's All-Sports Award
and the Women's All-Sports Award while the cumulative award is
known as the Commissioner's Cup.
Hope is in first in the overall Commissioner's Cup standings
as well as the men's and women's all-sports standings. Calvin is
the defending Commissioner's Cup champion.
Hope and Calvin rank one-two in every category. In the
Commissioner's Cup standings, Hope has 116 points, followed by
Calvin 106, Albion 88, 4. Kalamazoo 85. 5. Alma 74, 6. Olivet 38 and 7. Adrian 30.
Hope has 54 points in the men's all-sports standings
followed by Calvin 48, Kalamazoo 39, Albion and Alma 34 each,
Olivet 22 and Adrian 11. In the women's standings, Hope has 62
followed by Calvin 58, Albion 54, Kalamazoo 46, Alma 40, Saint
Mary's 20, Adrian 19 and Olivet 16.
The final standings for the all-sports awards will be
determined on the basis of each college's standings in eight of
nine sports for men and eight of nine sports for women. These
point-totals will be added together to determine the winner of
the Commissioners' Cup. The standings after the winter season
are based on five of six sports for men and five of six for
women.
The Commissioner's Cup (MIAA All-Sports Award) has been
presented since 1934-35. Hope has won the award a league-leading
22 times followed by Albion 14, Kalamazoo 13, Calvin 8 and Alma
5.
So far this year Hope has crowned conference champions in
four sports -- women's basketball, football men's golf and
volleyball.
