Hope Golfer Lacey Wicksall
Qualifies for Nationals

HOLLAND -- Hope College freshman Lacey Wicksall of Traverse
City (Traverse City Central HS) will compete in the NCAA Division
III women's golf championships to be held May 15-18 at the
Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur, Ill.
It marks the fifth consecutive year that a Hope golfer has
earned a berth in the national championship tournament and the
eighth time in nine years.
Last fall Wicksall was the medalist of the Michigan
Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) with a conference
record tournament average of 80.7 strokes. This spring she was
medalist in two of four qualifying events.
Wicksall will be bidding to become Hope's third All-American
female golfer. Ellen Colenbrander, a 2000 graduate, achieved
All-America status twice, finishing seventh in 1998 and eighth
last year. The best finish by a Hope golfer was fifth place by
Lisa Stover in 1994.
The host college for the tournament will be Millikin
University. The field includes 10 teams consisting of five
players and 10 individual qualifiers.
Wicksall is one of two golfers to qualify from the MIAA.
The other is Albion sophomore Stacy Chapman from Grosse Ile.
The tournament will consist of four 18-hole rounds over four
days beginning Tuesday, May 15. Methodist College of North
Carolina is the defending national champion.
