Lecture to Address Management of Sacroiliac Joint
Dysfunction

HOLLAND -- The Distinguished Lecture Series in
Sports Medicine coordinated by Hope College will examine the
management of sacroiliac joint dysfunction in athletes on
Tuesday, April 17.
The address will be presented at 7 p.m. in Grand
Rapids, at the Xavier Auditorium of St. Mary's Hospital.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The address will be delivered by Mike Cibulka, a
physical therapist with the Jefferson County Rehabilitation
and Sports Clinic in St. Louis, Mo. Cibulka will discuss
the cluster of signs and symptoms that distinguish pain from
the sacroiliac joint, which he notes are different from
other sources of low back and leg pain. He will also reveal
the way that the joint moves, and will describe simple
treatments that athletic trainers can perform to reduce
sacroiliac joint pain.
Cibulka has been a physical therapist since 1984.
He is a graduate of Washington University's master's degree
program in physical therapy. He is the author of nearly 20
publications and has lectured widely on the subject.
The Distinguished Lecture Series in Sports
Medicine is designed for health care professionals with an
interest in physically active patients, and is intended for
students, educators and clinicians alike. It is co-
sponsored by Holland Community Hospital, GRSportsCenter and
the college.
Xavier Auditorium is on the south side of Cherry.
Parking is in the Mercy visitor lot on the north side of the
street.
