Hope Golfer is NCAA All-American

HOLLAND -- Hope College freshman Lacey Wicksall of Traverse
City, Mich. capped a brilliant first collegiate season by
achieving All-America status as she finished 15th in the final
standings of the NCAA Division III golf championships. The
four-day, 72-hole tournament was held May 15-18 at the Hickoy Point Golf Course in Decatur, Ill.
Wicksall shot her three consecutive sub-80 rounds to conclude the tournament with a 78.8 stroke average. Her tournament summary was
84-79-74-78--315.
Her average was the third best among the individual
qualifiers in the 60-player tournament and the second best among
all freshman competitors.
Wicksall was a;so named the national Division
III freshman player of the year by the College Golf Coaches
Association. She was the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic
Association (MIAA) medalist in her first season after averaging a
league-record 80.7 strokes per tournament round.
She becomes the third Hope female golfer to achieve
All-America status joining Lisa Stover and Ellen Colenbrander.
