Ice Hockey Club Headed to National Tournament

Posted Saturday, March 1

The Hope College Ice Hockey club will make its second consecutive appearance in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division III National Tournament March 6-8. All games will be played in Muskegon at either L.C. Walker Arena or Lakeshore Sports Centre.

Earlier this season, the Flying Dutchmen defeated Calvin 4-2 to win Hope's first championship of the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference. Hope (21-5) is making its second appearance in the national tournament after finishing fifth at last year's Division III championships in Atlanta, Ga.

In its opening matchup, Hope plays Virginia Commonwealth University at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, at Lakeshore Sports Centre, 4470 Airline Road, in Muskegon. If victorious, Hope will then play the winner of the first-round game between Wagner College (NY) and the College of the Canyons (CA).

The tournament is being hosted by Muskegon Community College. Lakeshore Sports Centre has two rinks inside and can accommodate approximately 1500 people in each rink. L.C. Walker Arena, 470 W. Western Ave., is home to the UHL Muskegon Fury and seats approximately 5000 people.

Hope is ranked number one in the final rankings of the ACHA's Central Division. The team is coached by alumnus Chris Van Timmeren.
