Sports Medicine Series Lecture
To Focus on Kneecap Pain on January 20th

Posted January 17, 2000

HOLLAND -- The Distinguished Lecture Series in Sports Medicine at Hope College will examine the nature of "patello-femoral" pain -- pain in the kneecap -- on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Maas Center.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Dr. Chris Ingersoll of Indiana State University will present the address, "The puzzle of patello-femoral pain." According to Ingersoll, as many as 30 percent of all athletes referred to sport medicine clinics have some type of patello-femoral problem. He believes that patello-femoral pain may result from many different causes, and that those causes should be identified so that clinicians may treat the pain more effectively.

Ingersoll is the chair of the department of athletic training at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He is an internationally recognized expert on patello-femoral dysfunction. He is a certified athletic trainer and is editor of the "Journal of Sport Rehabilitation." He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.

The Distinguished Lecture Series in Sports Medicine is designed for health care professionals with an interest in physically active patients, and is intended for students, educators and clinicians alike. It is co-sponsored by Holland Community Hospital, GNA Rehabilitation Professionals and the college.
