The department offers undergraduate research opportunities for up to 40 students each year and paid full-time summer research work for up to 25 students.
  • Many students in the department co-author papers with faculty members for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • The department has 12 full-time professors [2] who specialize in a broad range of fields, including botany, ecology, genetics, molecular biology, physiology and zoology.
  • The new and expanded A. Paul Schaap Science Center gives you access to state-of-the-art academic and laboratory facilities.
  • Hope maintains a 55-acre nature preserve [3] on nearby Lake Michigan and a biology greenhouse in the A. Paul Schaap Science Center.
  • Students take part in annual seminar series, internships and off-campus programs at Oak Ridge [4] (Tennessee), Argonne National Laboratories and in Costa Rica, Florida, the Galapagos Islands, Scotland, Australia and Tanzania.
