National champion sprinter Nora Kuiper is being recognized for outstanding performance in the classroom.

She has been named to the Academic All-District team in women's track/cross country by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) and is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

Kuiper, from Parchment, Mich. (Parchment HS), won the gold medal in the 100-meter dash and finished second in the 200-meter at the NCAA Division III championships.  She earlier was named the most valuable trackster in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).

A chemistry major, she compiled a 3.93 cumulative grade point average and was named to the national honor society Phi Beta Kappa.

Her immediate future plans include spending a year in Mozambique in Africa working on a project to improve water supplies.
