Hope Summer Repertory Theatre continues its 36th season with the play "Lost in Yonkers" by Neil Simon, opening Friday, July 20 on DeWitt's main stage theatre.
"Lost in Yonkers" is a play rich with humor and sensitivity, about two brothers, Jay and Artie, who are learning to adapt to whatever life has to throw at them. After their panicked and widowed father leaves them at the home of their domineering grandmother and peculiar aunt to pursue work, the two boys are doomed to live a very strict lifestyle until their amateur gangster uncle appears to stir things up a bit.
In 1991 Neil Simon received a Tony Award for "Lost in Yonkers" for Best Play, and is still said to be Simon's best by numerous critics and audiences.
Acting intern Nick Abeel plays Jay alongside Casey Drnek as Arty. This is Nick Abeel's first year with HSRT and is currently pursuing a BRA in theatre performance at the University of Evansville, Indiana. Hailing from Hamilton, MI, sixteen year old Casey Drnek joins HSRT this season as a special guest of the company and has been acting since the 4th grade.
The show continues with performances at 8 p.m. on July 20, 21, 28, 31; August 8, 10.
