On Friday, October 4, 2013, Dr. John C. Knapp was inaugurated as the 12th president of Hope Collegein a ceremony in Dimnent Memorial Chapel. This is the text of his inaugural address, "The Promise of Hope".

A major gift from the A. Paul and Carol C. Schaap Foundation of Grosse Pointe Park is establishing multiple research fellowships for members of the Hope College chemistry faculty.

A new grant to Dr. Deborah Sturtevant, chair of the department of sociology and social work at Hope College, is continuing her multi-year research project to collect statistical data and conduct on-site interviews to help the Christian Alliance for Children in Zambia (CACZ) find ways to improve its “Milk and Medicine Program” for orphaned children age three and younger.

Dr. Christian Spielvogel of the Hope College communication faculty didn’t have experience in programming or a model to follow when he developed “Valley Sim,” an educational, multi-player, web-based roleplaying game set during the Civil War.

A grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) is supporting Hope College’s involvement in developing high-quality, online chemistry textbooks that are being made available at no cost to educators around the world.
