The Joint Archives, a department of Hope College, is the consolidation of the archival collections of Hope College, Western Theological Seminary, and other organizations that contract for archival services.

USING THE AUTOMATED COLLECTION GUIDE

There are several components to the Joint Archives automated access system. They include the Guide to the Collections which incorporates abstracts of all our processed personal papers, organizational records, and newspaper holdings. There are separate listings for our photographic, biographical, topical, pamphlet, and church collections. Indexes for The Anchor, Alumni News Magazine and News From Hope College are also included.

What follows are instructions to ease access to the materials. All archival materials must be used in the reading room and are accessed by working with one of the Archives reference staff.

GUIDE TO THE COLLECTIONS

The computer version of the guide will allow you to search for names, words, or subjects which are contained in the descriptions of materials held at the Joint Archives.

The Guide is divided into two sections. Numbers beginning with an "H" (H88-1000) are from the Hope College Collection, and those with a "W" (W88-1000) are from the Western Seminary Collection. Similar letter designations are used in the other portions of the automated system.

If a hot link connect exists in the abstract it will take you to a detailed register (inventory) of the collection to the folder level, history/biography, and scope and content note describing the collection strengths, weaknesses, and organization.

When searching note the collection name and number in order to help the Archive's staff locate materials you need.
