Biography

Born to Clifford and Marjorie Michaelson on June 14, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois, Wesley Michaelson went on to graduate from Hope College in 1967, Princeton Theological Seminary in 1968 and Western Theological Seminary in 1984. He was also ordained by the Classis of Holland that same year.
In 1969 he went to Washington D.C. as an assistant to Senator Hatfield in foreign affairs and the defense policy. After leaving the capitol in 1975, he continued his political involvement while editing for the Sojourners, a peace and justice periodical of the Evangelical world. He was also very involved in Young Life and took many trips with those involved. Wesley's area of special interest was always about the church and politics.
In 1982 Granberg-Michaelson began serving on the staff of the World Council of Churches (WCC) as executive secretary of its unit on Justice, Peace and Creation, concentrating on environmental issues. He was stationed in Geneva, Switzerland from 1992 to 1994 at which time he left to take the position of general synod secretary of the Reformed Church in America, succeeding Rev. Edwin Mulde r.
