This is the first edition of the Assessment newsletter. The objectives
of this newsletter are:
- to continue to inform the college community about issues involving
assessment at Hope College
- to publicize assessment projects that are being carried out in
various courses and departments here
- to highlight assessment plans/projects/results from other colleges
and universities that might be helpful in our assessment efforts
here
- to publicize conferences and publications that might be helpful
to faculty and staff as we continue our assessment program at Hope
College

This issue deals primarily with foundational matters. Excerpts from
the original Assessment Plan as adopted by the Academic Affairs Board
in April, 1994 are published inside this issue. The purposes in doing
so are:
- to make sure that everyone at Hope College is aware of this plan
and its requirements
- to allow for further discussion as to how this plan has affected
the implementation of our assessment program and
- to provide opportunity for review of this plan with a view to make
possible recommendations for revision and enhancement of the plan

The Assessment Committee plans to publish this newsletter once each
semester. We welcome your comments and your contributions.
