E-mail problems

As you may have noticed, the e-mail server was unavailable for about 25 minutes this morning. We're still looking for the exact cause, but it appears that the timing of the outage coincided with about 1700 virus-infected messages that were sent to campus at the same time. The viruses were blocked by our e-mail antivirus service, but the overhead involved in doing this for 1700 messages may have lead to the problems.

Just as a point of reference, our system usually blocks about 750 virus messages a day, so 1700 at one time is extraordinarily rare.

Phasing Out Classroom VCRs?!

There has been recent concern that CIT has plans to phase out classroom VCRs. Friends and fans of videotapes take note! CIT has NO current plans to remove VCRs and will continue to support VCR and DVD technology side-by-side for some time.

Like all technologies, we expect that VCR and videotape technology has a finite lifespan and will be succeeded by new and better equipment. When the time comes to transition from this resource to another, members of the campuswide faculty and library staff will be consulted to best navigate that process.
