Faculty and staff who use the U: drive (also known as the
fileserver "Red") may notice that they have more space available to store files and documents. Recently, every user on that server had their quota (the amount of space they can use) increased to 2000 megabytes (2 gigabytes). For most, that's a 10x increase!
To see how much space you currently have available:
- Open My Computer from either your desktop or the Start menu.
- Find the icon User on 'Red' (U:).
- Right-click on the icon and select Properties.
Remember, the U: drive is the best place to save to because:
- It's secure - Only you have access to files in your directory.
- It's automatically backed up - Every night, with the backup tapes stored in 2 fireproof vaults on campus plus underground in Grand Rapids.
- You can share - The share directory can be accessed by anyone in your department. The campus directory can be accessed by anyone who uses the server.
