Frequently asked questions about the email problem

When did the problem start?
The first message which we know for a fact experienced this delivery problem was sent on Thursday, January 12 at 11:41 am. We also know for a fact that the problem did not exist on Thursday, January 5 at 1:34 pm, when a similar message was sent to the same recipients.
How do I know if I was affected?
This problem is similar to sending a letter through the US Postal Service. We can say for certain that the message was sent, but the only way to know for sure that it was delivered is to ask the recipient if he/she received it. Unfortunately, there is no "tracking number" for these messages. If you sent an email message with multiple addresses in the T0: field between January 12 and this afternoon, you were probably affected.
How can I tell if the problem is still happening?
We are confident that the problem is fixed, but the only way to verify that your particular message got through to everyone in your list is to contact all of them and ask.
What are we doing to make sure this doesn't happen again?
CIT is continuing to talk to Symantec, and we have made them aware that we expect greater reliability in email delivery if they are to continue being our email filtering service.

Problems with outgoing e-mail messages

We are currently experiencing problems with outgoing e-mail messages. Messages sent from a Hope account to multiple non-Hope addresses are not going through.

For example, this means that a single message sent to both a Hotmail address and a Yahoo address will not be received by those users. You won't receive any notice or warning that the messages didn't go through, they just won't be received. However, sending an individual message to each address will work.

Messages sent to "hope.edu" addresses are not affected.

The problem has been traced to the company that provides our e-mail virus and spam scanning services. We're working with them to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, and will send out another announcement when service has been fully restored.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please check back here for further updates.
