Students: Need help with your computer?

Students, if you need help getting your computer connected, removing viruses, or using wireless, bring your computer to a ConnectHope Fair. There, a technician will sit down with you and work through the problem (free of charge!) . All Fairs are held in the CIT Office, located in Durfee Hall near the President's House:

Friday, 8/25 = 2 pm - 9 pm
Saturday, 8/26 = 12 pm - 4 pm
Monday, 8/28 = 2 pm - 9 pm
Tuesday, 8/29 = 5 pm - 9 pm
Thursday, 8/31 = 5 pm - 9 pm

If you use a laptop, all you need to bring is the computer and power supply. If you use a desktop, just bring the tower part (CPU). Also, if you want help setting up your wireless connection, be sure to bring a wireless card (the Bookstore sells them).

Outside of the times listed above, if you are a student and need assistance with connecting your computer to the network or removing a virus, call CIT at x7670 to make an appointment. Please note that a limited number of appointments are available, so there may be a wait for this service.

If you need more immediate assistance or help with things like reinstalling Windows or repairing hardware, we've negotiated reduced rates for Hope students/faculty/staff at several local computer repair shops. For more information and examples of the discounts, look here.

Reminders from CIT

The following message was sent to all students on August 22, 2006:

Dear Students -

We hope that your summer has been enjoyable and that you are looking forward to returning to campus in a few weeks. There are a few items of which we wanted to make you aware prior to start of classes:

+ CABLE TV: Cable TV is available to all students in on-campus housing at no extra cost. There is no sign up process, no monthly fees, etc. If you have problems with your cable service on campus or would like to order HBO, please call 1-888-COMCAST

+ UPDATE YOUR COMPUTER: We are asking that all students install Hope College's Symantec antivirus software (free), install all Windows Updates and turn off Windows "File and Printer Sharing" before they return to campus & connect to the network. More information about completing these steps is available here:
http://www.hope.edu/resources/cit/tips/securitytips.html

+ BRING YOUR SYSTEM CDS: Last year CIT repaired more than 900 student computers that were infected with spyware, adware and viruses. From time to time it becomes necessary to rebuild student systems and the original system CDs that came with your computer are necessary to do this.

+ CONNECTHOPE FAIRS: If you have trouble connecting to the campus network/Internet, please visit one of our ConnectHope Fairs at the times listed below. For those of you who are returning early, please note the Fairs scheduled prior to freshmen arriving on campus, as you may want to take advantage of those!

All ConnectHope Fairs will be held in the CIT Office. You are required to be present while CIT staff works on your computer.

** Tuesday, August 22: 9-11 a.m., 2-4 p.m.
** Thursday, August 24: 9-11 a.m., 2-4 p.m.
